In newsgroups

news.newusers.questions news.newusers.questions on Google Groups is not the place to advertise or announce web pages. The proper place to advertise your web page on Netnews would be a newsgroup that deals directly with the material on your page.

Posting an advertisement or announcement to an inappropriate newsgroup, or worse, to multiple newsgroups (crossposting or multiposting), will usually yield very negative results, from angry replies to account termination. Please see our pyramid-scheme warning page for details of what could await you!

The signature file

The easiest way to advertise your web page is to stick it in your signature file and participate in newsgroups by posting helpful, on-topic messages. Every time someone reads an article you have written, he or she will also see your "sig". As long as you keep your signature to four lines or less, you can put almost any information you want in it!

On the Web itself

The most effective way to advertise your web page is to use a search engine optimization (SEO) provider. They usually charge for their services.

Alternatively, you can submit your page directly to web directories, such as to the Open Directory Project. Search engines usually accept submissions as well, but they might nevertheless list your page only after other listed pages have linked to it.
