The purpose of this page is to provide information without any express or implied preference for any of the services listed.

We have formed a News Service Providers Committee (NSPC) to communicate with news adminisrators and promote propagation of the Big-8 newsgroups.

Please contact us to correct or expand the lists on this page or to join the NSPC.

The following brief list of free text news servers is in alphabetical order without editorial comment. It's a short list. Check out the servers and decide for yourself which one is best for you. No one knows what works for you better than you do. [Some additions made to Black Dragon's original list.]

  • Mixmin--This is an *read-only* nntp link (nntp://news.mixmin.net). Configure your newsreader to use it.
  • nntps://news.mixmin.net -- Same as above but with a nntps link. Same caveat.
