news.announce.newgroups (n.a.n) is a moderated announcement group. It was created in August 1989 as a special venue for circulation of new newsgroup proposals, calls for votes, and results of votes in the Big 7 newsgroup hierarchies. In 1995, the Big 7 became the Big 8.
Since 2006, the Big 8 are managed by a Board and calls for votes have been replaced by Last Calls for Comments.
As a general rule, posts made to n.a.n have followups set to news.groups.proposals , a moderated group created in November 2006.
