From: Mr. Peter Torres <torrespj@verizon.net> Subject: RFD: soc.culture.indigenous.taino Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups.proposals, soc.culture.misc Followup-To: news.groups.proposals Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2007 16:05:45 -0500 Organization: http://www.big-8.org/ REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) unmoderated group soc.culture.indigenous.taino This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of the unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, soc.culture.indigenous.taino. NEWSGROUPS LINE: soc.culture.indigenous.taino soc.culture.indigenous.taino The Taino Arawak and Carib indigenous cultures of the circum Caribbean islands, Florida & South American diaspora. RATIONALE: soc.culture.indigenous.taino We are aware that there are some Soc.Culture newsgroups that may cover the view point of a Eurocentric Hispanic or Southern America Latino stereotype. Yet these groups do not relate directly to our indigenous culture nor do they promote the linguistic, educational, economic and social, cultural values and interests of the our indigenous Taino Arawak and Carib peoples of the Circum Caribbean, Florida and the rest of the South American Amazonian rainforst cultures. For this reason we propose to establish a newsgroup and forum for discussion of the economic and political development of our Taino Arawak and Carib nations. CHARTER: soc.culture.indigenous taino will be a discussion forum for indigenous people of the Americas and around the world to meet and discuss topics of interest to indigenous people of the circum Caribbean region and the Amazonian Rainforest. Their rites, cultural beliefs, values, histories, Indigenous languages, spirituality practices of their ethnic Amerindian cultures. The term Taino is defined as the Good And Noble People. These being the ancient roots of the Caribbean Islands of and the South America known collectively as Arawak and Carib indigenous tribes. Only discussions relating directly to the cultures of these indigenous Amerindian peoples will be discussed along with other related indigenous cultures of the world. PROCEDURE: For more information on the newsgroup creation process, please see: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:creation Those who wish to influence the development of this RFD and its final resolution should subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. This is both a courtesy to groups in which discussion of creating a new group is off-topic as well as the best method of making sure that one's comments or criticisms are heard. All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.proposals. To this end, the 'Followup-To' header of this RFD has been set to this group. If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as well. We urge those who would like to read or post in the proposed newsgroup to make a comment to that effect in this thread; we ask proponents to keep a list of such positive posts with the relevant message ID (e.g., Barney Fife, <4JGdnb60fsMzHA7ZnZ2dnUVZ_rWdnZ2d@sysmatrix.net>). Such lists of positive feedback for the proposal may constitute good evidence that the group will be well-used if it is created.
