Subject: RFD: remove comp.sys.be.announce moderated From: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2007 19:19:39 +0000 (UTC) Message-ID: <nan.20070323191938$16e8@killfile.org> REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) remove comp.sys.be.announce This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated newsgroup comp.sys.be.announce. RATIONALE: remove comp.sys.be.announce The last approved message was in December 2000. Any announcements about legacy BeBox hardware and BeOS software may be made in the unmoderated groups of the comp.sys.be.* hierarchy. HISTORY: The newsgroup comp.sys.be.announce was created in February 1997 as part of the reorganization of the comp.sys.be.* (CSB) hierarchy, that included creation of CSB.announce, CSB.advocacy, CSB.help, CSB.programmer, and CSB.misc (rename of comp.sys.be). The group did not have an active moderator until July 1997, after which began a period of regular approvals of 2 or 3 per month, which lasted until April 1998. Approvals were quite rare until August 1999, when the moderator announced that he was spending some time figuring out what wasn't working with the moderation software. From then until December 2000, approvals were fitful, with 0, 1, or 2 approvals per month. The last approval was in December 2000. Over its active life, there were about 100 approvals. CHARTER: The newsgroup line is: comp.sys.be.announce BeOS product announcements. The charter (extracted from the CFV): Announcements of new software, hardware, documentation, FTP/WWW sites, events, etc for BeBox or BeOS. This group is moderated. Discussions of the announcements do not take place here. Commercial announcements are more than welcome. Before submitting an announcement, please read the submission guidelines, posted monthly to the newsgroup. PROCEDURE: The full group removal procedure is documented here: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups.proposals. All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.proposals. If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as well.
