From: board@big-8.org (The Big-8 Management Board) Subject: RESULT: comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d and .wanted will be removed Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted, comp.archives.msdos.d Followup-To: news.groups Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2006 12:24:34 -0700 RESULT comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d and .wanted will be removed The Last Call for Comments (LCC) on 16 Oct 2006 initiated a five-day period for final comments. Following the comment period, the Big-8 Management board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroups comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d and comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted. These groups will be removed on 27 Oct 2006. RATIONALE: remove comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d+wanted This is a companion proposal to that which would remove the moderated group comp.binaries.ibm.pc. The groups comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d and comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted exist solely to discuss binaries posted to comp.binaries.ibm.pc, or to request (re)posting of binaries to comp.binaries.ibm.pc. If comp.binaries.ibm.pc is removed, these groups would be totally superfluous. Note that there have been no messages approved to comp.binaries.ibm.pc since February 1996. Discussion of MS-DOS binaries in general (those not distributed via comp.binaries.ibm.pc) are more properly discussed in comp.archives.msdos.d. This proposal is one of several that will removal all groups in the comp.binaries.* hierarchy except comp.binaries.cbm. HISTORY: The newsgroup comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d was created in April 1988. In June 1991, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d was split into comp.binaries.ibm.pc, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted, and comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives. In January 1993, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives was renamed to comp.archives.msdos.d, removing the discussion of binaries not distributed via comp.binaries.ibm.pc from the comp.binaries.ibm.pc sub-hierarchy.
