From: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> Subject: RFD: remove comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d and comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted, comp.archives.msdos.d Followup-To: news.groups Date: Thu, 05 Oct 2006 11:52:35 -0700 REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) remove comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d remove comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the unmoderated newsgroup comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d. RATIONALE: remove comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d and comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted This is a companion proposal to that which would remove the moderated group comp.binaries.ibm.pc. The groups comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d and comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted exist solely to discuss binaries posted to comp.binaries.ibm.pc, or to request (re)posting of binaries to comp.binaries.ibm.pc. If comp.binaries.ibm.pc is removed, these groups would be totally superfluous. Note that there have been no messages approved to comp.binaries.ibm.pc since February 1996. Discussion of MS-DOS binaries in general (those not distributed via comp.binaries.ibm.pc) are more properly discussed in comp.archives.msdos.d. This proposal is one of several that will removal all groups in the comp.binaries.* hierarchy except comp.binaries.cbm. HISTORY: The newsgroup comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d was created in April 1988. In June 1991, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d was split into comp.binaries.ibm.pc, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted, and comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives. In January 1993, comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives was renamed to comp.archives.msdos.d, removing the discussion of binaries not distributed via comp.binaries.ibm.pc from the comp.binaries.ibm.pc sub-hierarchy. PROCEDURE: The full (draft) group removal procedure is documented here: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should subscribe to news.groups and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups. All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups. If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups as well. DISTRIBUTION: This document has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups comp.binaries.ibm.pc.d comp.binaries.ibm.pc.wanted comp.archives.msdos.d PROPONENT: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> CHANGE HISTORY: 2006-10-05 1st RFD
