Following the comment period, the Big-8 Management board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup misc.news.southasia. This group will be removed on 27 Sep 2006. RATIONALE: remove misc.news.southasia The last approved message was in March 1998. Since the 1990s, development of the Internet and World Wide Web have opened up direct access to news sources in South Asia so that a newsgroup is no longer the most efficient means of news distribution. In addition, it may be impossible to have a moderator who is considered neutral, and there may be copyright issues with regard to distribution of news articles published in other media. HISTORY: The newsgroup misc.news.southasia was created in March 1991 to post "News Reports from the countries of South Asia- Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri-Lanka." DISTRIBUTION: This document has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups misc.news.southasia The proponent will also post pointers to: soc.culture.bangladesh soc.culture.indian soc.culture.nepal soc.culture.pakistan soc.culture.sri-lanka PROPONENT: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> CHANGE HISTORY: 2006-09-22 Result Posting 2006-09-15 2nd RFD (LCC) 2006-09-01 1st RFD
