                   Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA)
                          sci.physics.plasma

This is a formal Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA), made because the
previous moderator of the moderated newsgroup sci.physics.plasma has
recently resigned. The goal of this process is to find a new moderator
for the group; failing that, the group will either be robo-moderated or
removed.

PROCEDURE:

As the Big-8 Management Board (B8MB) has not found anyone that is
willing to moderate this newsgroup, the B8MB plans to vote on whether to
robo-moderate the group for a time (i.e., posts will not be checked for
scientific content or adherence to the charter). The robomoderator will
not check posts for content or adherence to the charter, but will apply
simple spam filters and prevent cross-posts from appearing in the group.

If the Board decides not to robo-moderate the group, it will be removed.

The B8MB plans to begin voting on this proposal after five days. Please
offer any final discussion or comments before the end of this waiting
period. Voting may take up to one week (7 days); a result will be posted
following the end of the voting period.

If a suitable moderator can be found before voting ends, voting may be
suspended. Candidates should write the B8MB at <board@big-8.org> to
present their technical and academic credentials.

This is a preliminary procedure, instigated by the Big-8 Management Board.
Discussion of this procedure is strongly encouraged.

Those who wish to comment on this request to establish a new moderation
team for this newsgroup should subscribe to news.groups and participate in
the relevant threads in that newsgroup.

For more information on the B8MB, please see http://www.big-8.org/ .

NEWSGROUPS LINE: sci.physics.plasma

sci.physics.plasma	Plasma Science & Technology community exchange. (Moderated)

CHARTER: sci.physics.plasma

Plasmas are as rich as any other state of matter in terms of
distinct processes and they encompass distinguishable scales
ranging from the atomic to the galactic. Opportunities in plasma
science and technology reflect this breadth in phenomena and
scales; one recent list contains close to 200 subject areas and
more than 90 applications areas including thin-film diamond
deposition, toxic waste disposal, plasma arcs for steel
processing, laser self-focusing, fusion for energy production, gas
and arc lamps, cutting and welding, and semiconductor production.

The Plasma Science and Technology research community seeks an
increased dialogue among its multifarious constituencies. The
NEWSGROUP for Plasma Science and Technology is intended as a
community forum for sharing new developments and bringing
researchers together for potential new collaborations. The
newsgroup also provides a forum for public outreach and education.
Postings from students and the general public are welcome as we
all help one another in learning more about the "fourth state of
matter" and its enormous range of applications.
