Moleski, SJ" <moleski@canisius.edu> Subject: Moderator Vacancy Announcement: sci.physics.plasma Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, sci.physics.plasma, sci.physics, sci.physics.accelerators, sci.physics.computational.fluid-dynamics, sci.physics.cond-matter, sci.physics.discrete, sci.physics.electromag, sci.physics.fusion, sci.physics.particle, sci.physics.relativity, sci.physics.research, sci.physics.strings Followup-To: news.groups Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2006 11:12:12 -0700 Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA) sci.physics.plasma This is a formal Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA), begun because the previous moderator of the moderated newsgroup sci.physics.plasma has recently resigned. The goal of this process is to find a new moderator for the group. PROCEDURE: This is a preliminary procedure, instigated by the Big-8 Management Board and the Dead Groups Task Force. Discussion of this procedure is strongly encouraged. The Big-8 Management Board (B8MB) would like to find a person or a group willing to moderate sci.physics.plasma. Candidates should write the B8MB at <board@big-8.org> to present their scientific and newsgroup credentials. If no such moderator can be found, the group will probably be robo-moderated for a time (i.e., posts will not be checked for scientific content or adherence to the charter). The robomoderator will apply simple spam filters and prevent cross-posts from appearing in the group. Those who wish to comment on this request to establish a new moderation team for this newsgroup should subscribe to news:news.groups and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups. All discussion of proposed nominees should be posted to news.groups. If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups as well. For more information on the B8MB, please see http://www.big-8.org/ NEWSGROUPS LINE: sci.physics.plasma sci.physics.plasma Plasma Science & Technology community exchange. (Moderated) CHARTER: sci.physics.plasma Plasmas are as rich as any other state of matter in terms of distinct processes and they encompass distinguishable scales ranging from the atomic to the galactic. Opportunities in plasma science and technology reflect this breadth in phenomena and scales; one recent list contains close to 200 subject areas and more than 90 applications areas including thin-film diamond deposition, toxic waste disposal, plasma arcs for steel processing, laser self-focusing, fusion for energy production, gas and arc lamps, cutting and welding, and semiconductor production. The Plasma Science and Technology research community seeks an increased dialogue among its multifarious constituencies. The NEWSGROUP for Plasma Science and Technology is intended as a community forum for sharing new developments and bringing researchers together for potential new collaborations. The newsgroup also provides a forum for public outreach and education. Postings from students and the general public are welcome as we all help one another in learning more about the "fourth state of matter" and its enormous range of applications. BACKGROUND: sci.physics.plasma sci.physics.plasma was initiated by Tim Eastman in July 1994. The current moderator (since July 1996) is: John W.
