A formal Moderator Vacancy Investigation (MVI), begun because
moderated newsgroup rec.arts.anime.info is not functioning and
may have been abandoned by its moderator(s), resulted in Rob Kelk
and Gerardo Campos offering to co-moderate the group.

NEWSGROUPS LINE:

rec.arts.anime.info		Announcements about Japanese animation. (Moderated)

RATIONALE:

Probe posts to this group resulted in bounces.  The last on-topic article
dates from 2004.

STATUS OF THE MVI:

Rob Kelk offered to moderate the newsgroup on 5 June.  Gerardo Campos offered
to assist on 6 June.  Alexander Bartolich has offered to provide a web-based
moderation facility that Rob and Gerrardo can use.  There appears to be a
reasonable chance of reviving the newsgroup.  I recommend that the board take
action to appoint new moderators for the newsgroups.

- Any significant anime-related news ("Mamoru does DIRTY PAIR movie!")

Any follow-ups to postings in rec.arts.anime.info will be sent to
rec.arts.anime.misc.

HISTORY OF THE GROUP:

The group was created in a split of rec.arts.anime in 1993.  It passed
its vote on 27 April 1993, 166:31.  The group was active between August
1993 and December 1999.

The group was mentioned in a reorg of rec.arts.anime in 2008:
"rec.arts.anime.info is a moderated newsgroup that had an unhealthy
moderator that recently passed away, hence the low traffic.  Furthermore,
there is some desire to retain the newsgroup, with the addition of a new
moderator(s) at a later date."
