From: board@big-8.org (Big 8 Management Board) Subject: RESULT: rec.arts.tv.x-factor will be created Date: Thu, 11 Aug 2011 19:53:36 EDT Message-ID: <j21pu3$4bv$1@news.albasani.net> RESULT unmoderated group rec.arts.tv.x-factor The Last Call for Comments (LCC) on 2011-08-06 initiated a five-day period for final comments. Following this comment period, the Big-8 Management Board has decided by consensus to create unmoderated newsgroup rec.arts.tv.x-factor. NEWSGROUPS LINE: rec.arts.tv.x-factor Simon Cowell's singing competition talent show. RATIONALE: Discussion of the X-Factor TV show has been growing on Usenet. With the planned September debut of the show in the US, fans are requesting a newsgroup dedicated to the show. The "X-Factor" is the world's most popular and highest rated reality/talent TV show. Over two dozen countries have their own individual versions. The U.S. version that debuts in late September 2011 is expected by most television experts to be the highest rated show of the new television season, as it is in almost every other country where it is shown. The "X-Factor" was conceived by, and stars, Simon Cowell. He is famous for being a judge on programs such as: "Britain's Got Talent," "American Idol," "America's Got Talent," and other shows. It is best described as a combination of "American Idol," "The Voice" and "America's Got Talent" but for singers only. Each of its four judges also act as a specific member to their individual teams that are made up of specific demographics. One judge has men up to a certain age, one has women up to a certain age, one has groups and the other has everyone over a specific age. There is no age limit for participants, unlike other shows and the prize for winning is a recording contract and $5,000,000.00. Further information about the worldwide "X-Factor," franchise, brand and how it "works" may be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X_Factor_%28TV_series%29 . It is not restricted to the discussion of any nation's specific X-Factor, in the anticipation that this will spur additional interest and communication worldwide about a show that has re-defined reality television. Most likely however, discussions will focus on the versions from: the United States, Great Britain and Australia. The U.S version will also be shown in many countries concurrent with its showing in the U.S. Posters are expected to abide by normal Usenet standards of decorum, and to ignore articles intended to disrupt the group. The usual suspects are prohibited (spam, binaries, direct advertising, etc.) DISTRIBUTION: new.announce.newgroups news.groups.proposals rec.arts.tv PROPONENT: Bob Rudd <bobrudd@verizon.net> CHANGE HISTORY: 2011-07-29 1st RFD 2011-08-06 LCC 2011-08-12 Result
