news.announce.newgroups (n.a.n) is a moderated announcement group. It was created in August, 1989, as a special venue for circulation of new newsgroup proposals, calls for votes, and results of votes in the Big Seven newsgroup hierarchies. See Message-ID <3912@ncar.ucar.edu>

In 1995 the Big Seven became the Big Eight.

Since 2006 the Big Eight are managed by a board.
