From: kmorgan@spamcop.net (Kathy Morgan) Subject: RFD: Remove comp.software.shareware.users Date: Wed, 25 Nov 2009 08:05:28 EST Message-ID: <1j9p8a9.s47ulj1l0jubrN%kmorgan@spamcop.net> REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) Remove moderated group comp.software.shareware.users This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) to remove moderated newsgroup comp.software.shareware.users. NEWSGROUPS LINE: comp.software.shareware.users Use of shareware. (Moderated) DISTRIBUTION: news.announce.newgroups news.groups.proposals comp.software.shareware.users PROPONENT: Kathy I. Morgan <kmorgan@aptalaska.net>, moderator of the group CHARTER OF COMP.SOFTWARE.SHAREWARE.USERS: This is a moderated newsgroup, intended for discussion related to the use of shareware software. Without limitation, acceptable postings may relate to: Support questions. Bugs, fixes and workarounds. Usage tips. Shareware reviews and comparisons. Binary postings are not acceptable, although pointers to binary postings in appropriate binaries groups are. Commercial advertisements are not acceptable. Cross-posting between this newsgroup and other comp.software.shareware.* newsgroups is not acceptable. RATIONALE: This group has always been very low traffic, and there have been only two marginally ontopic submissions since May. In February there was one ontopic post. There was an ontopic question posted in April, and another in early May, neither of which was answered. Prior to that flurry, it had been a year since there had been an ontopic post. I also moderate comp.software.shareware.announce and comp.software.shareware.authors. Historically, posts that would be appropriate for css.users are first posted to css.authors. At this time they are rejected with the suggestion that the post be resubmitted to css.users. If css.users is removed, submissions currently on topic for css.users would be accepted for css.authors. HISTORY OF THE GROUP: comp.software.shareware.users is a moderated newsgroup which passed its vote for creation by 322:29 as reported in news.announce.newgroups on 22 Sep 1998. PROCEDURE: Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should subscribe to news:news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups.proposals. All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.proposals. If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as well.
