This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup rec.hunting.dogs.


RATIONALE: remove rec.hunting.dogs

This is a dead group.  There has been no viable activity on this group
for nearly a year (maybe longer).  Even before that, the activity level
of this group was extremely low (no more than 1 or 2 posts per month).
Note that this is despite the fact that the moderator (myself, the
proponent of the removal RFD) dutifully checks for new posts on a
regular basis (at least one per week).

It is important to note that it is the moderator of the group who is
initiating the proposal.


HISTORY:

The group was originally a spin off from rec.hunting back in the
mid-1990's.  Because of the number and nature of dog-related posts, it
was felt a separate discussion group under the hierarchy of rec.hunting
should be created.  After an appropriate RFD & CFV process which showed
very little opposition to the proposal, the group was created.   The
moderator was designated to be myself (Chris Barnes); to date, this is
the only moderator the group has ever had.


CHARTER:

The newsgroup line is:

rec.hunting.dogs        Hunting topics specifically related to using dogs. (Moderated)

The charter, culled from the call for votes:

The charter of this group is to be virtually identical to the charter
of rec.hunting, with the additional requirement that posts should have
something to do with dogs.

Specifically, the group is expressly PRO-HUNTING and PRO-DOG USE in
nature.  Allowable topics would include any area that would be related
to the use of dogs while hunting.  This includes, but is not limited
to dog issues such as training, breeding, health issues, and field
trial & hunting test issues.  Also, any hunting related topic where a
dog may be used is allowable (including, but not limited to choice of
firearm, bullets, hunting seasons, bag limits, etc.).  Advertising of
personal items for sale and responsibly bred puppies is also allowed.

Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should
subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads 
in that newsgroup.

To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to 
news.groups.proposals.

All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.proposals.

If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion
may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that
all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as well.
