This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce.


RATIONALE: remove rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce

Note: The removal of rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce would have no effect
on the existence of rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc.

The last approval was in December 2000, about the time production of
new episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 ceased. Announcement-type
articles may be posted directly to the unmoderated
rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc.


HISTORY:

The newsgroup rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce was created in April 1995. At
the same time the unmoderated newsgroup rec.arts.tv.mst3k was renamed
to rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc.  The newsgroup rec.arts.tv.mst3k had been
created a year earlier in May 1984.

Approvals for rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce had declined from roughly 20
per month in 1995 and 1996 to 2 or 3 per month in 2000.  The last
approval was in December 2000.


CHARTER:

The newsgroup line is:

|rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce	Mystery Science Theater 3000 announcements.

The newsgroup rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce will be use as a forum for
announcements of interest to MST3K fans.  This includes, but is not
limited to:  Show schedules, episode guides, formalized reviews, Tour
schedules, official announcements from Best Brains,
Contest/Promotional Information, appearances by current or former cast
members, FAQs, and MST3K-related events such as conventions or local
get togethers.

Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should
subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads 
in that newsgroup.

To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to 
news.groups.proposals.

All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.proposals.

If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion
may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that
all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as well.
