From: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> Subject: RFD: remove sci.finance.abstracts moderated Newsgroups: sci.econ, sci.finance.abstracts, news.announce.newgroups, news.groups.proposals, misc.invest.technical Followup-To: news.groups.proposals Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2007 09:26:49 -0500 Organization: http://www.big-8.org/ REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) remove sci.finance.abstracts This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated newsgroup sci.finance.abstracts. RATIONALE: remove sci.finance.abstracts The last approval was in October 2000, and approvals were quite infrequent over the three previous years (1998-2000). In the total active lifetime of the group, about 80 articles were approved, with half of those in the first six months after the group was created. More general access to the WWW has made the group superfluous, and the last moderator agreed there was no purpose in keeping the newsgroup around. HISTORY: The newsgroup sci.finance.abstracts was created in June 1996. The Google archive has 78 approved, non-FAQ articles, with half in the last 6 months of 1996, and most of the rest in 1997. The final two articles were approved in August and October 2006, after a gap of almost two years. CHARTER: The newsgroup line is: |sci.finance.abstracts Abstracts of unpublished finance working papers. The charter (from the CFV): This is a newsgroup for the posting of abstracts of up to 250 words (and instructions for requesting or downloading the full working paper) of unpublished original theoretical and empirical research on: Corporate Finance Financial Markets Investments Options, Futures and other Derivative Securities Insurance Banking and Financial Intermediation Other topics in Finance Related topics in Accounting, Economics and Applied Statistics PROCEDURE: The full group removal procedure is documented here: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups.proposals. All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.proposals. If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as well. DISTRIBUTION: This document has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups (moderated) news.groups.proposals (moderated) sci.finance.abstracts (moderated) sci.econ misc.invest.technical The proponent will also post pointers to: sci.econ.research (moderated) PROPONENT: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> CHANGE HISTORY: 2007-07-17 1st RFD
