From: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> Subject: RESULT: comp.sources.acorn will be removed Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, comp.sources.acorn, comp.sys.acorn.misc, comp.sys.acorn.programmer Followup-To: news.groups Date: Wed, 05 Jul 2006 10:05:10 -0700 RESULT remove comp.sources.acorn The Big-8 Management Board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup comp.sources.acorn. Voting began on 01 Jul 2006, and ended on 02 Jul 2006. This group will be removed on 07 Jul 2006. SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION: There were no objections to the removal of comp.sources.acorn. There were 2 comments that comp.binaries.acorn should also be removed. It is my intent that this be brought forward as a separate RFD in the future along with other comp.binaries.* groups. There was one question about why alternative means of source distribution were available. FTP is one such method. The various announcement and discussion newsgroups can continue to be used to publicize the availability of sources, but the actual distribution by Usenet is no longer needed, nor particularly useful. RATIONALE: Remove comp.sources.acorn The last approved message was in August 1999. There are other more suitable means of distributing program sources, so comp.sources.acorn is not a suitable candidate for conversion to an unmoderated newsgroup. HISTORY: The newsgroup comp.sources.acorn was created in March 1991, with the first approved message in March. The charter (from the CFV) was: comp.sources.acorn moderated distribution of sources for Acorn machines. DISTRIBUTION: This RFD has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups comp.sources.acorn comp.sys.acorn.misc comp.sys.acorn.programmer PROPONENT: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> CHANGE HISTORY: 2006-07-05 Result prepared. 2006-06-26 2nd RFD (Last Call for Comments) 2006-06-19 Slightly reformatted and posted to NAN 2006-06-16 Original RFD.
