From: board@big-8.org (The Big-8 Management Board) Subject: Moderator Vacancy Announcement: soc.religion.hindu (LAST CALL FOR COMMENTS) Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, soc.religion.hindu, soc.culture.indian, soc.culture.indian.info Followup-To: news.groups Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2006 13:12:22 -0700 Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA) soc.religion.hindu This is a formal Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA), made because the previous moderator of the moderated newsgroup soc.religion.hindu has been found to be permanently absent. The goal of this process is to set up a new moderation scheme for the group. PROCEDURE: As the Big-8 Management Board (B8MB) has not found anyone that is willing to moderate this newsgroup, the B8MB plans to vote on whether to robo-moderate the group for a time (i.e., posts will not be checked for scientific content or adherence to the charter). The robomoderator will not check posts for content or adherence to the charter, but will apply simple spam filters and prevent cross-posts from appearing in the group. If the Board decides not to robo-moderate the group, it will be removed. The B8MB plans to begin voting on this proposal after five days. Please offer any final discussion or comments before the end of this waiting period. Voting may take up to one week (7 days); a result will be posted following the end of the voting period. If a suitable moderator can be found before voting ends, voting may be suspended. Candidates should write the B8MB at <board@big-8.org> to present their technical and academic credentials. This is a preliminary procedure, instigated by the Big-8 Management Board. Discussion of this procedure is strongly encouraged. Those who wish to comment on this request to establish a new moderation team for this newsgroup should subscribe to news.groups and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. For more information on the B8MB, please see http://www.big-8.org/ . BACKGROUND: soc.religion.hindu soc.religion.hindu was created in August 1995 by a 551:34 vote. It will be the forum to discuss various Hindu docterines as they are applicable to day to day living. Unlike soc.religion.eastern, it will also be used as a forum to discuss various issues that affect Hindus living around the world. These issues include, environmental awareness from the Hindu perspective, war and peace, human rights and participlation of Hindus in political process to promote the universal ideals mentioned above. It will also be used as a forum for cultural news about Hindus from around the world. This forum will also be different from soc.culture.indian (sci) because, sci is more concerned with the issues affecting India, whereas soc.culture.hindu will be of interest to the people from around the world who are eager to learn about the Hindu dharma (religious philosophy + way of life) and culture.
