From: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> Subject: RFD: remove misc.news.southasia Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, misc.news.southasia Followup-To: news.groups Date: Fri, 01 Sep 2006 14:39:46 -0700 REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) remove misc.news.southasia This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the newsgroup misc.news.southasia. RATIONALE: remove misc.news.southasia The last approved message was in March 1998. Since the 1990s, development of the Internet and World Wide Web have opened up direct access to news sources in South Asia so that a newsgroup is no longer the most efficient means of news distribution. In addition, it may be impossible to have a moderator who is considered neutral, and there may be copyright issues with regard to distribution of news articles published in other media. HISTORY: The newsgroup misc.news.southasia was created in March 1991 to post "News Reports from the countries of South Asia- Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri-Lanka." PROCEDURE: The full (draft) group removal procedure is documented here: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should subscribe to news.groups and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups. All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups. If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that all discussion appears in news.groups as well. DISTRIBUTION: This document has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups misc.news.southasia The proponent will also post pointers to: soc.culture.bangladesh soc.culture.indian soc.culture.nepal soc.culture.pakistan soc.culture.sri-lanka PROPONENT: Jim Riley <jimrtex@pipeline.com> CHANGE HISTORY: 2006-09-01 1st RFD
