From: board@big-8.org (The Big-8 Management Board) Subject: 2nd RFD: remove comp.unix.unixware.announce moderated (LAST CALL FOR COMMENTS) Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, comp.unix.unixware.announce, comp.unix.unixware.misc, comp.unix.sco.misc Followup-To: news.groups Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2006 07:33:32 -0800 REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) remove comp.unix.unixware.announce This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated newsgroup comp.unix.unixware.announce. PROCEDURE: The B8MB plans to begin voting on this proposal after five days. Please offer any final discussion or comments before the end of this waiting period. Voting may take up to one week (7 days); a result will be posted following the end of the voting period. All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups. The full group removal procedure is documented here: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION: No comments were received. RATIONALE: remove comp.unix.unixware.announce There have been no approved messages since June 1996. During its short period of active approvals (July 1995 to June 1996), there were only 30 approved articles other than FAQ's. Approvals were sporadic, with the following numbers of approval per month: 8,0,4,3,0,1,0,6,0,0,0, and 8. When comp.unix.unixware.announce was created, part of the rationale was the high traffic in comp.unix.unixware (comp.unix.unixware was renamed to comp.unix.unixware.misc). The creation of the ".announce" group, and the renaming of the discussion group were characterized as a re-organization, which might result in a whole sub-hierarchy of comp.unix.unixware.* which would be served by the ".announce" group. As it turns out, no additional groups were created, and traffic in comp.unix.unixware.misc has declined dramatically by about a factor of 1/100 (to around 5 articles/month). There is no need for a separate announcement group at this time since the rest of the sub-hierarchy consists of a single, low volume discussion group. Any announcements can be made directly to comp.unix.unixware.misc. Note: this proposal would remove only comp.unix.unixware.announce. comp.unix.unixware.misc would not be affected. HISTORY: The newsgroup comp.unix.unixware was created in November 1993. In April 1995, it was renamed to comp.unix.unixware.misc, and the companion announcement group comp.unix.unixware.announce created. The first approvals for comp.unix.unixware.announce were in July 1995, and the last in June 1996. There are 35 approvals in the Google archive, 5 of them FAQ's. DISTRIBUTION: This document has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups comp.unix.unixware.announce comp.unix.unixware.misc comp.unix.sco.misc CHARTER: The newsgroup line is: comp.unix.unixware.announce Announcements related to UnixWare.
