From: The Big-8 Management Board <board@big-8.org> Subject: 2nd RFD: remove soc.religion.vaishnava moderated (LAST CALL FOR COMMENTS) Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, soc.religion.vaishnava, humanities.language.sanskrit, news.groups.proposals, soc.religion.hindu Followup-To: news.groups.proposals Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2007 16:21:05 -0600 Organization: http://www.big-8.org/ REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) remove soc.religion.vaishnava This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated newsgroup soc.religion.vaishnava. PROCEDURE: The B8MB plans to begin voting on this proposal after five days. Please offer any final discussion or comments before the end of this waiting period. Voting may take up to one week (7 days); a result will be posted following the end of the voting period. All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.proposals. The full group removal procedure is documented here: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION: No comments were received. RATIONALE: remove soc.religion.vaishnava The newsgroup soc.religion.vaishnava has not had any approved messages since March 1998. After its creation in 1996, the group was active for slightly over 2 years. It has been inactive for the past 9 years. Conceivably, the group could be converted to an unmoderated status. But one of the reasons for moderation in the first place was to block gross abuse of discussion by Jay Stevens (aka Jai Maharaj). The group was robomoderated, with provisions against cross-posting; more than 4 articles per 24 hours; or posting with Subjects in all caps. It might be possible to reinsitute robomoderation, but any such moderation should be expected to deal with attempts by Jay Stevens to flood the group or circumvent the moderation of the group. It might also be possible to institute conventional hand moderation. The lack of support for creation for soc.religion.vaishnava.dvaita (see History) may indicate a lack of interest in the revival of soc.religion.vaishnava. HISTORY: The newsgroup soc.religion.vaishnava was created in January 1996. It was active for slightly over 2 years, until March 1998. In August 1999, a proposal was made to create soc.religion.vaishnava.dvaita. Part of the rationale for the proposed group, was the inactivity of soc.religion.vaishnava and soc.religion.hindu. The proposal for the new group failed for lack of support (90:38). DISTRIBUTION: This document has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups.proposals soc.religion.vaishnava soc.religion.hindu humanities.language.sanskrit CHARTER: The newsgroup line is: soc.religion.vaishnava All aspects of Vishnu and Vaishnavism.
