From: The Big-8 Management Board <board@big-8.org> Subject: 2nd RFD: remove rec.games.trading-cards.announce moderated (LAST CALL FOR COMMENTS) Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, rec.games.trading-cards.misc, rec.games.trading-cards.announce, news.groups.proposals, rec.games.trading-cards.magic.misc Followup-To: news.groups.proposals Date: Mon, 26 Feb 2007 16:14:57 -0600 Organization: http://www.big-8.org/ REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) remove rec.games.trading-cards.announce This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated newsgroup rec.games.trading-cards.announce. PROCEDURE: The B8MB plans to begin voting on this proposal after five days. Please offer any final discussion or comments before the end of this waiting period. Voting may take up to one week (7 days); a result will be posted following the end of the voting period. All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.proposals. The full group removal procedure is documented here: http://www.big-8.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=policies:rmgroup SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION: Two comments were received. The first said that most announcements and FAQ's are specific to a particular game such as 'Magic: the Gathering', and would be more appropriate for the newsgroup(s) specific to a particular game. More general announcements can be made rec.games.trading-cards.misc, which is a low traffic group. The second comment was from a participant in RGTC.jyhad since 1996, who said that, "no-one on that NG will miss rgtc.announce." RATIONALE: remove rec.games.trading-cards.announce The newsgroup rec.games.trading-cards.announce has not had any approved messages since July 1998. A month earlier, the moderator posted an article titled: '[admin][important] The future of this group', stating that: "This group isn't working... I know that. The question is what to do about it.". He said that he didn't have the time to moderate the group, and requested anyone who wanted to replace him as moderator to contact him. He mentioned that official submissions from game producers had "just about hit zero of late". As an announcement group, it would not be appropriate to convert the group to an unmoderated status. HISTORY: The newsgroup rec.games.trading-cards.announce was created in December 1994 as part of the re-organization of the rec.games.deckmaster.* sub-hierarchy. As part of this re-organization, the 2 existing groups in the rec.games.deckmaster.* hierarchy, along with 5 new groups were placed in a newly established rec.games.trading-cards.* (RGTC) hierarchy. The new groups were RGTC.announce, RGTC.jyhad, RGTC.magic.rules, RGTC.magic.strategy, and RGTC.magic.misc. The renamed groups were RGTC.misc and RGTC.marketplace, renamed from rec.games.deckmaster and rec.games.deckmaster.marketplace, respectively. Approvals in RGTC.announce were roughly 3 to 4 per week from December 1994 to July 1998. There have been no approvals in the 8-1/2 years since then. Historical Footnote: In the CFV, the creation of the new groups was handled independently from the hierarchy renaming. Voters were first asked to approve creation of rec.games.deckmaster.announce, etc.; and then as a second ballot item asked to vote on renaming rec.games.deckmaster.* to rec.games.trading-cards.* DISTRIBUTION: This document has been posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups news.groups.proposals rec.games.trading-cards.announce rec.games.trading-cards.misc rec.games.trading-cards.magic.misc The proponent will also post pointers to: rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad rec.games.trading-cards.startrek CHARTER: The newsgroup line is: |rec.games.trading-cards.announce Important news about trading card games.
