This investigation will attempt to verify the reasons for non-function, and may result in the removal of the group or the selection and installation of a new moderator. In practice, the Big-8 Management Board considers the third alternative -- changing the status of the group from moderated to unmoderated -- as likely to cause more harm than good. NEWSGROUPS LINE: sci.aeronautics.airliners Airliner technology. (Moderated) RATIONALE: Probe posts to this group resulted in bounces. DISTRIBUTION: news.announce.newgroups news.groups.proposals sci.aeronautics.airliners sci.misc CHARTER A moderated discussion group dealing with the implementation of flight and systems models on computers. This includes, but is not restricted to: - the definition of such models - acquisition and modeling of flight parameters - design and implementation of onboard systems models - design and implementation of powerplant models - standardization of commonly required data, such as flight parameter databases, navaid databases, etc. - design of cab-based implementations of flight simulators HISTORY OF THE GROUP: The results posting for the group is missing from the archives. It was presumably created after the last CFV which is dated 14 June 1994. It was active until March 2000. An MVI was held in November 2004. On 11 January 2005 these results were published: “sci.aeronautics.airliners will have a new moderation team, coordinated by George Herbert. An announcement will be made by them, not including news.announce.newgroups, when they are ready for the group to become operational again.” No such announcement appeared. PROPONENT: Steve Bonine <spb@pobox.com> PROCEDURE: Those who wish to comment on this moderator vacancy investigation should subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup. To this end, the followup header of this MVI has been set to news.groups.proposals.
